Overview
The major focus of this course is to expose attendees to design process, research and analysis, teamwork, communication methods, and engineering standards.
The course will lead participants towards enhancing their interpersonal skills, creative abilities and understanding of the design process. Participants will combine their knowledge of design, engineering, and manufacturing processes to create functional designs and to understand how their decisions affect product cost, performance, and quality. They will also learn how to document their work, and communicate their solutions to their peers, managers, and members of the professional community
Although the course is assumed to be an introduction to the fundamentals of engineering design, participants are assumed to be concurrently engaged in design in one way or another in order for them to employ engineering and scientific concepts in the solution of engineering design problems
Objectives
Engineering design is intended to provide a realistic understanding of the engineering design process beyond as it has been perceived of being a mathematical equation to be solved or optimized. The course is intended to provide attendees with a cohesive structure for the design process that they can use with a variety of design methods and tools when dealing with new design creation or improving an existing one.
Who Should Attend?
Engineering design is for engineering students, practicing engineers. Managers enrolled in projects’ creation and implementation are also encouraged to attend this course despite the fact that it has an engineering perspective.
Learning Outcomes
- After attending this course, the attendee will be able to
- Understanding the importance of design process,
- Identify the problem and identifying needs,
- Effectively gather design required information,
- Use effective concept generation tools ,
- Produce robust design by including quality and optimization techniques within the design
- Verify and evaluate all costs associated with the design.
- Effectively select design team members and manage design project time
